Observation Four-Cycle Addendum
Can a single exclusive observation four-cycle create arbitrary integral torsion when its local link homology is torsion-free?

A focused addition to Observation Refinement
Observation Refinement studies what changes when a Boolean observation splits a finite observed state. This addendum answers the integral four-cycle question in its fixed referee-repair v0.5 manuscript. It is a technical addition to that research line, not a replacement for the parent manuscript or a general account of cognition.
The question is whether local pieces can all have torsion-free integral homology while their interaction produces a nonunit secondary map. The answer is yes, even with exactly one exclusive four-cycle and a contractible coarse complex. The new torsion appears through the actual inclusion maps and their integral index; inspecting the individual link homology groups alone does not determine that interaction.
What the addendum proves
- For every integer k at least two, an actual Boolean-observation refinement realizes a secondary differential of multiplication by plus or minus k. Its exclusive graph is exactly K2,2, its coarse order complex is contractible, and every mixed-core available link has torsion-free integral homology.
- The uniform construction uses 24k + 11 coarse states. A separate projective-plane construction realizes k = 2 with 35 coarse states and 66 worlds; the uniform k = 2 construction has 59 coarse states and 114 worlds. These are construction sizes, not minimum-state theorems.
- A local-anchor modification preserves the complete available-link diagram and its inclusion maps while contracting the coarse complex. The refined complex has reduced integral homology Z/k in degree two only. No refined homotopy classification is asserted.
- When the entire exclusive graph is one K2,2 plus optional isolated exclusive vertices, a surviving row-zero source has zero or primitive secondary image, including after nontrivial first-page quotients. For a rank-one target, its scalar is 0, 1 or -1. Source row one is therefore the first possible row for the nonunit rank-one examples in this graph scope.
Evidence and limits
The general construction and integral-index argument are proofs for arbitrary k. Portable exact-integer verifiers provide separate finite checks: the 35-state example, uniform k = 2, 3, 4, 5, four row-zero examples and Moore-space seeds k = 2 through 9. The website preparation reran those checks successfully in a copy of the public release; the original research files were preserved.
Moore spaces, order homotopies, suspensions, exact sequences and poset spectral sequences are classical. The claimed specialization is the constrained observation-product realization and its row-zero obstruction. Historical priority has not been established. The row-zero result does not cover a four-cycle inside a larger connected exclusive component or several nontrivial components.
Two independent internal AI proof and hostile reviews found no supported major objection after minor revisions. They are not external human peer review or formal proof-assistant certification. Human specialist review remains recommended. Minimum state/world counts, larger-graph classification and refined homotopy type remain open. No physical validation, consciousness criterion, learning mechanism or architectural benefit follows.
Place in B-Theory
The coarse observation is a declared representation of Being; refinement changes the distinctions available within that finite model. This addendum identifies a precise limitation on inferring the outcome of that change from its local homology alone. Its relation to The MIND remains mathematical and bounded: it does not show that a system acquires an observation or implements a cognitive process.

The release contains the public AI review summary, substantive reviewer responses, proof-dependency ledger, complete finite certificates and dependency-free Node.js verification scripts. Public provenance records hashes, verification scope and presentation repairs. The source and PDF name Brian Theory. Native MathML supports reflowing reading, but specialist screen-reader testing remains outstanding and the PDF is untagged.
