Draft checkpoint completion rubric
Use this rubric to review the two checkpoint exercises. These checkpoints do not certify full-course mastery.
Record route, lesson/checkpoint, first response, elapsed time, hints/replay, score, explanation and revised response. Score the initial attempt before showing any answer or reference solution.
| Dimension | 0 | 1 | 2 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rule and scope | Wrong rule or negation scope | Correct after a substantive hint | Correct rule, explicit parentheses and declared inputs |
| Layout and address | Axes/order missing or inconsistent | Partial correct layout, corrected with guidance | Valid ordered split, dimensions and both requested addresses |
| Construction | Matrix or variant does not implement rule | Substantial correction needed | Complete correct construction; executable API for programming outcome |
| Independent verification | No oracle or compares lookup to itself | Only selected cases or incomplete variant check | Every small-case assignment checked by an independently stated rule; discrepancies explained |
| Explanation and transfer | Cannot explain changed layout or rule | Basic account with minor omissions | Explains preserved function, changed addresses/accepted cases and output-contract limits |
Proposed checkpoint readiness: 2 in the first four dimensions and at least 1 in explanation (at least 9/10), with no unresolved correctness error. A corrected attempt can meet readiness, but retain its hint/answer exposure record; do not label it an unassisted first attempt. If the same misconception recurs, use a parallel problem before closing it.
Route specific evidence
- Mathematics: complete hand-worked rule, both layouts and all eight checks; describe the OR/exclusive-or change. This does not assess code.
- Programmer: runnable API construction, explicit name map, a new valid split, independent scalar oracle and all eight checks for both variants.
- Full course: both checkpoints plus separate evidence for the algebra/module objectives. These two checkpoints alone do not assess every lesson.
